There was more than one reason why everyone from Principal Keri Autiello and second-grade teacher Jennifer Ramage to a host of students at Johnston’s Early Childhood Center were decked out in a variety of purple colored garb last Friday.
It was Epilepsy Day, and the ECC held a Dress Down Day to raise money as well as awareness. The ECC community raised more than $200.
“Our great staff and many, many students donated one dollar – and in some cases event more – to the Epilepsy Foundation of New England [in Lowell, Massachusetts],” said Ramage, who serves as coordinator for the Feinstein Foundation Good Deeds program.
Ramage also announced that Gianna Halliwell – a former ECC student and the daughter of ECC staff member Kim Halliwell – was the inspiration behind the Epilepsy Purple Dress Down Day. She has epilepsy, “but thankfully she has been healthy for the past few years.”
Ramage said epilepsy is a neurological disorder marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness or convulsions associated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
