Earth Day celebrated on Neuaconkanut Hill

It didn’t matter rain was falling or that the grounds on Neuatconkanut Hill were wet as Saturday’s annual Earth Day Clean-up on the highest point in Providence was a great success.

Elli Panichas, a spokesperson for the award-winning Neutaconkanut Hill Conservancy, reported that more than 50 people showed up and got the job done, including planting what she called “indigenous fruit trees for all to enjoy – including the deer – and clear paths for walkers as well as the sidewalks off Plainfield Street.”

“We even had some folks install a whole new floor in our large tool-storage trailer,” Panichas said. “Despite all the nasty weather, we had the Providence Police Cadets helping us for the fifth straight year.”
