Duquettes celebrate Golden Anniversary

Posted

After 50 years of wedded bliss, Edmond and Ethel Duquette have proven that their love can stand the test of time.

“Many of their friends and family are no longer with us, so I’m unable to throw the big 50th party they so deserve,” wrote Ed and Ethel’s daughter, Karen, who asked if the Sun Rise would help celebrate their anniversary. “This is my way of showing them my love and appreciation for being a strong example of what parents should be. They’ve done more for me and my sister than we sometimes deserved, and their love and commitment to each other has always remained strong through the years.”

Ed is the retired former owner of E.J. Duquette & Associates Executive Search Firm. Ethel is the non-retired “manager” of the Duquette household. Before marrying Ed, she worked as an Executive Secretary for Turner Construction in Manhattan.

Ed, originally from Fall River, met his beautiful bride Ethel, originally from the Bronx, while each was vacationing with their friends for Labor Day Weekend on Block Island in 1966. It was love at first sight. They were married at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in the Bronx on Sept. 2, 1967. Larry Jackson (best friend and partner in crime) was the Best Man, and Katharine Troseth was the Maid of Honor for her sister.

They settled in Johnston, to raise their daughters, Lisa, of New York, and Karen, of Johnston.

Ed and Ethel have remained in the same family home for 47 years, building endless happy memories. They are the proud Meme and Pepe of 7-year-old Matthew, and enjoy sharing stories with him of their life together. They like watching old movies, doing crossword puzzles together, listening to French music and ballroom dancing.

We at the Sun Rise wish Ethel and Ed another 50 years of happiness.
