Drunk driving crash survivor delivers sobering message

Posted

On Wednesday, May 3, drunk driving crash survivor and motivational speaker Rebecca White presented to the junior and senior class at Johnston Senior High School. The presentation was sponsored by the Johnston Prevention Coalition.

Rebecca lost her mother, Marcia Bowman, and her best friend, Katie Decubellis, in 1999 from a drunk driving crash. Rebecca, who was 13 at the time, was the only survivor of the crash. Since the tragic crash, Rebecca has devoted a great deal of passion and energy towards advocating against the harm of impaired driving.

Rebecca began publicly speaking at the age of 15 and continues to share her message now 19 years following the crash. Rebecca’s presentation, “5 Simple Guidelines,” touches upon what she believes are the keys to living a happier life. Students were encouraged to free their hearts from hatred, don’t stress, laugh more, make good choices and take time for what really matters.

Rebecca’s presentation was an important reminder for students to make good decisions during the upcoming prom season and always.
