Highlights of the decisions made and items discussed at the Johnston Town Council Meeting on Monday, December 12.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

Council President Anthony Verardo congratulated Jean Lynch, a regular attendee at town council meetings, for recently receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council for her outstanding dedication to the watershed.

LICENSES

A&D Fitness, located at 1145 Atwood Avenue, a private gym offering fitness classes and training, was approved for a business license with holiday sales.

Located at 1200 Hartford Avenue, Suite 130, Lynne M. DiPadua, LICSW was permitted a business operating license for mental health counseling services.

A business operating license with holiday sales for Magnolia Pediatrics at 1450 Atwood Avenue, Unit 10 was granted.

Healing Therapeutic Massage, with a location at 1524 Atwood Avenue Suite 213 was approved for a business operating license for a licensed therapeutic massage practice.

A phone calls only/business operating license was permitted for Rhode Island Original, an online apparel business, located at 61 Oak Hill Drive.

A business operating license for a licensed therapeutic massage practice was granted to Therapeutic Massage by Michaele Miolizza located at 1524 Atwood Avenue.

Derby Properties Inc., located at 1395 Atwood Avenue, Suite 209-C was approved for a business operating license for real estate sales.

A hair salon license for haircuts, coloring and waxing was permitted for Meraki Salon located at 622 Killingly Street.

Dlashez Lash Lounge, located at 1216 Atwood Avenue, was approved for a business operating license with holiday sales.

Located at 1308 Atwood Avenue, Joanne Lozy, LMT, was approved for an operating license for massage therapy.

New tobacco licenses were approved for the following establishments; Convenience Plus at 1501 Atwood Avenue, Eddie’s Market at 1571 Plainfield Pike, Shop N Go at 1569 Plainfield Pike, Stop and Shop at 11 Commerce Way, Ambe at 780 Hartford Avenue, and Market Beer Wine & Spirits at 11 Commerce Way.

CONSTITUENT REQUESTS

Councilman Richard DelFino thanked Arnold Vecchione along with the Police Department for a successful year responding to requests.

Councilman David Santilli thanked students at Barnes Elementary for their recent work in creating a 2018 calendar.

District 4 Councilman Robert Russo inquired about a recently approved ordinance about removing advertising signs from telephone and other poles as he’s noticed an increase in signs.

Councilman Robert Civetti asked Arnold Vecchione about CDL licensed trucks.

Council President Anthony Verardo requested that a letter be sent to the Department of Transportation for a traffic study on Atwood Avenue from the High School to FM Global due to an increase in traffic in the area.

NEW BUSINESS

A petition for a change to the zone map by Atwood Holding for assessor’s plat 44, lot 120 at 1222 Atwood Avenue from R-15 to B-1 was referred to the Planning Department.

A petition from National Grid and Verizon for the placement of a new jointly owned pole on Endicott Street was ratified.

A resolution approving an increase in cost for services in the agreement between DiPrete Engineering Services and the town pertaining to a sewer evaluation for EPA compliance was approved.

SHOW CAUSE HEARING

A show cause hearing revoked the operating license for In Town Auto Sales and Service located at 1208 Atwood Avenue.
