Close but yes cigar

The goodwill committee at the Rosario Society, a nonprofit that has been running for more than 100 years, held a Cigar Night Sampling Dinner on Sept. 30 to benefit the Friedrich’s Ataxia Research Association, or FARA. The event raised $750 in proceeds, which will go toward research into the degenerative neuromuscular disease. Secretary John Campanini said the group has undergone a leadership change and more strategic planning over the past several years, resulting in becoming more active in charitable givings.

When Jack DiIorio, a friend of one of the Society’s members, told them about his son, Matt — who suffers from FA and is one of the namesakes for the Race for Matt and Grace — the fundraiser came together.

“It was a really generous crowd,” Campanini said, adding that the group also plans to give out turkey baskets around Thanksgiving this year.

He thanks Gentleman Jim’s Cigar Shop and Tomaselli’s Kitchen for their donations, along with BORI Graphix for the printing help. From left to right at the check presentation were, Campanini, member Salvatore Pellegrino, DiIorio and President Joseph Santilli. (Submitted photo)
