Brenda Martin honored with a stitch in time

Officially, Brenda Martin is the Dietary Manager at the nationally-accredited Johnston Senior Center.

However, if you talk to the JSC’s regulars like Orlando Ricci and Chris Giardina, just to new a few friendly folks, Martin is and always has been much more than just a chef.

Martin can often be seen serving food or even filling up water glasses during the JSC’s daily luncheons. She often serves as Dining Room Hostess when the Grace D’Andrea isn’t available.

She has also been known to help Activities Assistant/Sunshine Secretary Jean D’Arezzo decorate the JSC’s multi-purpose room with the many themed events that take place during the year.

“She’s a jack of all trades and master of everyone,” people like Marie Lanzi will tell you. “She’s just a wonderful woman.”

Perhaps that’s just one of the many reasons why Lanzi, and members of the JSC’s highly acclaimed Quilt Club, decided to do something special for Martin prior to the annual and highly-successful Meat Raffle back on Nov. 10.

The Quilt Club presented Martin with a colorful quilt that featured her picture which was surrounded by printed fabrics of food.

“We all love her,” Lanzi said about the always-smiling Martin. “She’s ever so pleasant and we thought it would be appropriate to do this for Brenda; we did so because of her longevity [19 years] and for her being the chef.”
