Bowling fundraiser supports Defenders of Animals

Posted

Defenders of Animals Inc. holds fundraising events throughout the year, and during the last two months, the organization spent in excess of $8,000 for emergency care, medicine, food, spaying/neutering and other needs.

It looks for support from residents living in different communities throughout Rhode Island.

“We want to encourage people to support Defenders of Animals Inc., because all our efforts and resources are spent only in Rhode Island,” said Dennis Tabella, the organization’s director. “It’s great that people support national organizations, but it’s the local organizations that are making an impact in the Ocean State.”

With the cooperation with Town Hall Lanes in Johnston, the organization recently held its Bowling for Animals’ event for members. Twenty-five people participated at the event with additional support provided through donations. The event raised $600, which will go directly to support care for animals.

“It’s important that Rhode Islanders consider the slogan attributed to Yoko Ono and popularized with the help of her husband, John Lennon – namely, ‘Think globally, act locally,’” Tabella said.
