The sixth grade students at St. Rocco School participated in the American Scholastic Achievement League Challenge. Scores were released this month and the following students scored 54 or above on the 2012 Scholastic Challenge. According to the American Scholastic Achievement League, a score of 60 or above is considered exceptional. Ethan Michael (Trophy for Top Scorer in Rhode Island), Derek Dingley, Anthony Gordon, Stephen Cerra, James Marcil, Brianna Cardona, Michaela Kiley, William Lonardo, Julianna Binns, Kyle Baxter and Michael Flori were all recognized for their performance.
St. Rocco School participated in the "Bags to Benches" recycling program sponsored by Trex, bringing in a school total of 36,000 plastic bags to be recycled; an average of 120 bags per student. The school was given a Trex bench made primarily from recycled and reclaimed plastic. Parent volunteer Lori Pezzullo helped to coordinate the school's participation in the contest.
The following students from St. Rocco School participated in the New England 50th Music Festival and took first place in their respective categories: sixth grader Brandon Tran, accordion solo and piano solo; first grader, Mandy Tran, piano solo; and fifth grader, Gillian Austin, piano solo.
The virtue of the month for April was integrity. The students who were chosen as Students of the Month for April were Lorenzo Salvador, Gabriella Mancieri, Sara Austin, Luciano Leone, Mandy Tran, Andrew Picard, Julianna Vigneiro, Jenna Perrotta, Louis Kogut, Ashley Mariani, Wailynn Sweeney, Alex Casale, Victoria Reilly, Patrick Binns, Dante Parise, Anthony Lanni, Emily Caprio, Christian Valder and Steven Parrillo.
