All inside 5K planned at Citizens Campus

If you haven’t seen – or visited -- the stunning state of the art Citizens Bank Campus in Johnston, you might want to plan on doing so on Saturday, Nov. 4.

That’s when the Johnston Community Center Association, known for its on-going events such as the upcoming and annual Holiday Festival and other such family oriented happenings such as Movies and Summer Concerts in the Park, will team up with Citizens Bank for the 1st Annual 5K Road Race/Fun Walk.

Moreover, the entire 3.l-mile road race – as well as the walk – will be held inside the sprawling Citizens Bank mega-campus that officially opened in September.

Although the actual course has not as yet been revealed, it’s safe to say that part of the 3.1-mile event will feature such areas as the unique walking trail inside the Citizen Bank campus as well as the still-under-construction sports area that includes everything from two bocce and basketball courts, a tennis court, and soccer and baseball fields.

Sunday, JCCA President Glenn Carroll along with his wonderful and long-time volunteers Ann Carroll and daughter Nicole who is a teacher at Johnston’s Early Childhood Center, attached a colorful and well-done advertising-promotional banner near the entrance to War Memorial Park.

“We are very excited about this upcoming event,” Glenn Carroll said with enthusiasm ringing through his voice. “Funds that we make here will go a long way to support the many events the JCCA puts on in town as well as the projects that we support in the community.”

Glenn Carroll then heaped words of praise upon Mike Knipper, the Executive Vice President/Head of Property at Citizens Bank, emphasizing: “Everyone connected with the JCCA is extra excited and very thankful to have the name Citizen Bank attached to our event as the sponsor for the 5K race and walk.”

Moreover, as Carroll continued: “We hope the community will come out on Nov. 4 to show support – as well as take in a close look of what Citizens Bank has brought – and built – in our town. Their support for this event has been extraordinary and we haven’t even taken one step or stride.”

As Carroll noted earlier, proceeds from the Nov. 4 5K/Fun Walk – which will the JCCA’s first-ever such event – will help bring Santa Claus to town for the Holiday Festival when Carroll and company will giveaway many bicycles as well as holiday baskets and Christmas gifts to those in need.

Carroll also added, with a certain intriguing smile on his face: “We’ll have several other announcements about the 5K/Fun Walk, the course, a special team entry and more about the overall event soon. We hope to see a huge crowd show up on Nov. 4 at the Citizen Bank Campus where there’s certainly plenty of parking.”

Entry fee for the 5K has been set at $25 per runner and per walker. Each entrant will receive a customized t-shirt and people are urged to register as soon as possible at racewire.com. For more information please call Glenn Carroll at (401) 474-82998 or Mark Gilmore at (401) 4809-9622.
