60s and Sexy

Ahhh, to be 10 again.

Posted

I recently spent some time with my 9-year-old granddaughter, Savannah, and my friend Judy’s 10-year-old granddaughter, Sydnee. It was a day and night of fun, complete with a sleepover.

How much sleeping was done is debatable. We had so much fun and it helped remind me that laughter is very healing and fun can be had anywhere.

It was a warm summer night and it was Food Truck Night at Rocky Point. If you haven’t attended one, it’s a must for summer fun! We found a spot to set up our chairs and blanket and then off we went, hungry and ready for fun. We started off by first checking out all the choices that we could enjoy. There were 22 food trucks and the smells wafting through the air had us all giddy with anticipation. We finally decided on grilled cheese sandwiches, a delicious Mexican bowl and ended with chocolate-covered strawberries.

It was so much fun watching these two young girls laugh and giggle through the night. They had met only one time before. It was amazing that without judgment and the preconceptions that adults have they acted like they had been besties forever.

The location we chose for our home base was perfect, as it allowed me to let the girls go off on their own but they were still within my view. There was a band playing and they spent a lot of time watching them and dancing and, of course, more giggling. Their newfound freedom was a joy to watch.

We were set up near the bottom of a hill. They started running up the hill and then decided to roll down together. They would get to the bottom, hold hands and skip back up, just to do it all over again.

I think as adults we should all take a break every day and skip somewhere. Not only does it make you feel great, just watching the looks on other’s people faces would be priceless. I bet you would see some smiles.

That stirred emotions deep in my heart of being carefree, without a problem in the world and simply living in the moment. So, my message this week is to give yourself a break from your hectic life. Just be 10 years old for a little bit, hold hands, giggle, skip and eat a chocolate-covered strawberry.
