AAA to process non-member transaction to assist DMV

Posted

The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles and AAA Northeast have announced an agreement allowing non-AAA members to complete certain DMV transactions at AAA offices around Rhode Island.

AAA has agreed to process DMV transactions for nonmembers as the state agency readies its operations for its computer system launch, scheduled for Wednesday, July 5.

The eight AAA offices in Rhode Island already process approximately 20 types of DMV transactions in a long-standing partnership with the state, including license and registration renewals. AAA will allow non-members to complete those transactions to assist the DMV through its computer system launch period. Under the agreement, AAA is providing the service at no charge to the state.

The DMV annually processes approximately 1.6 million transactions, including those conducted through AAA around Rhode Island.

Transactions at the DMV, ranging from license and registration renewals to license plate cancellations, are conducted using a computer system put in place 40 years ago.

A list of the transactions eligible to be processed at a AAA office is available at www.dmv.ri.gov and at northeast.aaa.com/automotive/registry-services/rhode-island.html. More details about the timing of DMV closures will be announced in the coming weeks.
