AAA survey finds gas prices 'relatively stable'

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down two cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s July 9 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.90 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is 4 cents above the national average of $2.86. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 67 cents lower at $2.23 per gallon.

“Demand for gasoline this summer has remained strong and pump prices have been relatively stable,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “Motorists should be mindful of the fact that hurricane season is underway, and storm-related supply issues could translate into higher prices.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 40 cents, from a low of $2.69 to a high of $3.09.
