Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up two cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA’s April 1 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.55 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is fourteen cents lower than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.69. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was five cents higher at $2.60.
“Three months ago motorists across the country could find gas for less than $2.50 at 78 percent of gas stations. Today, you can only find gas for that price at one third of the stations,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “Supplies have been steadily decreasing since early February causing spikes at the pump that are likely to continue throughout April and into May.”
The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 35 cents, from a low of $2.44 to a high of $2.79. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every time.
