Whitehouse holding community office hours at Johnston library

The staff of U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse will hold community office hours in Johnston on Wednesday, July 30 to help local residents navigate the red tape of government agencies.

The office hours will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library, located at One Memorial Avenue.

“Senator Whitehouse is committed to ensuring that federal agencies respond to Rhode Islanders’ needs by answering questions, finding resources, or resolving problems residents face,” reads a press release from the senator’s office.

“While Whitehouse’s staff can’t ask an agency to circumvent its rules, force it to decide a question in favor of a constituent, or change a decision that is already final, caseworkers can make inquiries about the status of a person’s situation or request and review steps taken thus far to ensure that individuals’ cases are being handled properly.”

The release asks residents seeking help with a specific matter to bring all appropriate contact information, including a daytime phone number and email address, any relevant identification or tracking numbers – such as a Social Security number or case number – and as much information about their question or concern as possible.

Additional information can be found online at www.whitehouse.senate.gov under “Services” and “Agency Assistance.”

Those interested in attending can RSVP online, or call Whitehouse’s Providence office at 401-453-5294 for more information.
