To the Editor:
On the day my son and his fiancé of seven years picked out their wedding bands, after coming back from a quiet evening of drinks in celebration with a few friends, while entering his home, my son’s heart was stopped by a massive heart attack. He was only 35.
Fortunately, a friend living next door gave him CPR until the rescue squad arrived and was able to restart his heart. He was sent to Fatima then Miriam Hospital, where the incredible team of doctors and nurses fought to save his life as he remained in critical condition for nine long days.
He was lucky. He recovered and his health insurance paid most of the $150,000 bill.
However, others like him, but without insurance, are faced with financial ruin or they simply default on payment, thus driving up everyone’s medical costs.
After recovery, he might have found it impossible to get affordable health insurance because of his condition.
Obamacare deals with these very problems and Americans would benefit by working together to make the present bill even better.
The Radical Right, however, have staked their future on obstructionism and fear-mongering.
They want to de-fund the government, defaulting on our debts and harming the economy in yet another effort to kill Obamacare.
They claim they fear Obamacare will harm jobs. Don’t believe them! It’s all about destroying that black man they so vehemently detest with the American people and economy as collateral damage. What they really fear is that Obamacare will succeed.
