Wayne D. Floyd, 64, of Ft. Myers, Florida passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres, Fla. He was the beloved husband of the late Penny (Calloway) Floyd.

Born in Dallas, Texas, grew up in Johnston, RI, he was the son Cecelia (Piccoli) Floyd of Johnston and the late Hardie D. Floyd. He retired from the United States Army as First Sgt. on June 1, 1989 at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina after serving 20 years of military service. During his military career, Floyd’s overseas assignments have been with the Joint U.S. Military Assistance and Advisory Group (JUSMAAG) Bangkok, Thailand; Taiwan Defense Command, Taipei, Taiwan; Intelligence Security Command, Korea; and War Headquarters Allied Forces Central Europe, Germany.

The highlight of his career was his selection to the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (Delta Force). Among the awards he received was the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the nation’s 3rd highest peacetime award. Upon his retirement, he worked Civil Service @ JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command) from 1990-1994. Then he joined the Hospitality field with Staybridge, and Hawthorne Suites until retiring in June of 2008.

Besides his wife and parents, he was the devoted father of Bianca M. Sheely and her husband, Sean of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, John A. Floyd of Ft. Myers, FL and Sara E. Floyd of Ft. Myers, FL with whom he lived. He was the loving grandfather of five grandchildren; dear brother of Linda L. DiPetrillo of Johnston and brother-in-law of the late Aleck J. DiPetrillo.
