Torch Run Plunge is March 22

Torch Run Plunge rescheduled

Posted

The Torch Run Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics of Rhode Island (SORI) and an accompanying fundraiser have been rescheduled to later this month.

The event, to take place at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick, had been scheduled for March 1, but the decision was made to delay until March 22 given the current conditions. Now in its eighth year, the plunge features scores of participants diving into the waters of Narragansett Bay at noon. Registration begins at 10 a.m.

Also rescheduled was the Super Plunge held as part of the event.

Cranston Police Officer Eric Leclerc, Richmond Police Chief Elwood Johnson, Woonsocket Firefighter Rick LaBreche and SORI volunteers Jim Cummings and Bo Mathews will dive into the bay once an hour beginning at 1 p.m. on March 21, with their final trip coinciding with the Torch Run Plunge.
