See it at the Movies

(Violent, disgusting

and, yes, ridiculous)

What were they thinking when they made this violent, disgusting, ridiculous movie?

The premise to the sequel is that the government sets aside one night a year when it is legal to kill. All the good people lock themselves in their homes and pray that they will make it through the night, while all the bad people grab their weapons and hit the city streets.

There’s one guy denouncing the purge as racist on the Internet. Another guy (Frank Grillo) is out for revenge, ending up helping a mother and daughter and young couple who find themselves in the middle of the battles.

This is all a set-up for violence and mayhem and a message about class inequality. The four lower class innocents find themselves in a situation where wealthy upper class folks partake of the purge against them. Guess there’s supposed to be a message there.

There is a lot of running around dark alleys and narrow escapes, plus one bloody scene where they think they have found refuge with a “normal” family.

The acting is terrible. The plot is as poor as it gets. The violence is disturbing, with no redeeming social value whatsoever. Have fun at the movies this week.

Rated R, with extreme violence and profanity.
