Tri-Town health care meetings

Due to the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010, you may be eligible for free or very low-cost health insurance. Tri-Town Community Action has set up two informational meetings to help. Both meetings will be on Oct. 9, with the first to be held at Tri-Town, located at 1126 Hartford Ave., at noon. The second will be held at Tri-Town’s 33 Maple Ave. location in North Providence at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will provided.

Coverage may start as early as this month and you have a right to apply for health insurance. With insurance, the financial burden of families is lifted and medications prescribed by providers are more affordable. Open enrollment is Nov. 19, 2014 through Feb. 15, 2015, and Medicaid enrollment can take place at any time.

The community is welcome to these informational meetings to learn more about obtaining a peace of mind that you and/or members of your family are protected. For more information, please call Jim Carleton at 401-519-1959.

RI Dream Center to host events for the homeless and poor

The RI Dream Center (RIDC), located on Park Avenue in Cranston, is a non-profit, faith-based organization helping the homeless and poor in Rhode Island. On Oct. 11, the RIDC will be having a walk-a-thon to raise money for two events it holds in November. The first is the Hope for the Homeless annual event at Praise Tabernacle Church in Cranston that provides food, entertainment, information and resources to homeless folks, and the second is the annual Backpack Giveaway held at the State House.

For more information, contact the RIDC at 401-396-2743.
