One of the biggest fundraisers of the year, the Fantastic 50, took place last week at St. Rocco School.
"This is our seventh year doing this. Fifty prizes get raffled off to those who purchased tickets," said Elizabeth Zompa, chair of the event. "The prizes are donated by local businesses and family members."
Zompa said that 100 percent of proceeds go back to the school for helping to pay for education, safety and school improvements.
All of the students participate in selling the tickets, which were $1 each. More than 7,000 tickets were sold this year alone.
"Each student took tickets home to sell and we sold at local area locations as well," said Zompa.
Prizes for this year's raffle included gift certificates from hotels, stores, health clubs, barber shops and salons, gift certificates to Mystic Aquarium and gifts of jewelry, to name a few.
The raffle drawing was held last Wednesday in Cafe Rocco. All 50 tickets were drawn, with staff, students, parent volunteers, and even Father Angelo Carusi of St. Rocco Church, joining in the fun of pulling out the names.
