Shots fired from car; town man charged

A town man is facing charges after an early-morning weekend incident in which he allegedly fired gunshots from his vehicle while pursuing another driver.

Deputy Police Chief Daniel Parrillo said David King, 44, was arrested Sunday afternoon on charges of felony assault with a dangerous weapon, firing in a compact area, and disorderly conduct. He was ordered held on $15,000 surety bail, and is also being held as a probation violator on previous charges.

Parrillo said the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m., starting on Joy Street. A dispute involving a former girlfriend of King’s is believed to have been the cause, the deputy chief said.

Parrillo said at one point during the incident, the two vehicles ended up traveling through the parking lot of the Atwood Avenue 7-Eleven.

Parrillo said it was not clear whether the shots were fired at the other driver. He said the weapon used in the incident has not yet been recovered.

Parrillo said King is known to Johnston police, and was identified as the suspect in Sunday’s incident based on information from witnesses. He was arrested at his home without incident, the deputy chief said.

“Luckily, no one got hurt,” Parrillo said.
