JHS complex completion targeted for Sept. 15

Sept. 15 new target date for completion of JHS complex

Johnston High School’s new athletic complex will still take center stage this fall, just not quite as soon as originally hoped. Sept. 1 was the expected date of completion for most of this summer, but athletic director Keith Cory said Wednesday that the new target date is Sept. 15.

The completely revamped complex will be highlighted by its centerpiece, a turf field and a new track. Construction has been ongoing and is nearing the finish line, but school and town officials want everything done for the opening.

The later date will require a few adjustments to the schedules for the Johnston High School football and soccer teams, but the Panthers will have their home sooner rather than later.

The football team’s home opener was scheduled for Sept. 12 against Bishop Hendricken. That game will likely be moved to Hendricken. A Sept. 19 home game against Tolman could be the debut for the new complex.
