Season heats up at second Summer Sizzler

No one – not even the always-optimistic Bobby Nicholson or his production company partner, attorney E.J. “Terry” McEnaney – ever dreamed the Summer Sizzler concert series would be such an overwhelming success.

The two outdoor concerts held thus far at Ciara Restaurant and Lounge at 678 Killingly St. in Johnston – put on by InsideOut Productions, and featuring food, entertainment, dancing, and more for just $20 – have drawn rave reviews.

“People really, really like what’s going on here,” Michael Barone, who owns and operates Barone Construction and operates Ciara with chef Steve Catanzaro, said last Saturday evening. “We are absolutely thrilled and think these concerts are good for the town.”

“These people are doing a great job,” said Peter Lombardi, who serves as vice chairman of the Johnston Senior Center Advisory Board and is an officer at the Italo-American Club of RI. “Our Center received $1,000 from the proceeds after the first concert, and believe me, that money will go a long way.”

Saturday night’s concert also sizzled, as headliner C Music Factory entertained the crowd and money was raised in honor of McEnaney’s father, who passed away in May. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, a unique state-of-the-art hospital at 1085 North Main St. in Providence.

Two more Summer Sizzler concerts are planned – one of which is being coordinated by another promotion company and will include more big time music from a New York-based group.

Nicholson said the third concert is scheduled for July 30 and the fourth is set for Aug. 20.

“We’ll have an announcement soon about music for those two nights,” he said. “We want to thank the people of Johnston for their tremendous support and look forward to providing more quality entertainment and food.”
