The sixth- and seventh-graders at Hope Highlands hosted the new middle school’s first-ever walkathon recently to raise money for the school. The day was clear and the walk to the Briggs field was brisk as the students, administration, and staff members arrived by grade level, greeted by music playing as they walked the track. Parent volunteers were on hand with snacks and drinks as well as a limbo stick for all who were game to give it a try. The school recently voted to keep the existing mascot and nickname, the Hope Highlands Huskies, and were proud to show off their Husky spirit throughout the day with shirts and banners displaying the name. The school received both corporate and independent sponsorships for the event. “We would really like to thank all of our parents and corporate sponsors that helped us meet our fundraising goal,” said Inga Russell, one of the parent volunteer organizers of the event.
