The Silver Lake Little League, which was once a home for many Johnston youngsters, had a rather unique no-hit pitching performance last Thursday night at famed Neutaconkanut Park.
League officials will also tell you it was “a bittersweet game for Christen Roman,” who actually hurled what was almost a perfect game.
Roman, who is a hard-throwing 12-year-old right-handed pitcher, twirled his first-ever no-hitter but his Titans’ team suffered a 1-0 hard-luck loss to the Warriors, whose only run scored on an error that resulted in the unearned run.
Despite the loss, Roman – who has been selected to represent the Titans in the upcoming July 6 All-Star Game – struck out 10 Warriors and knocked his teams only two hits. As equally impressive, Roman did not walk a batter in the six-inning contest.
