SLIP UP

Patrolwoman Brooke Ardito reports going to an apartment complex on Simmonsville Avenue on Jan. 13 to investigate some damage that was done to a car that was parked there on Jan. 9. The man who complained said he would have reported it earlier, but had to wait to speak with the manager of the apartments who had left at 4 p.m. the day of the incident. He said a woman broke the mirror off his son’s car while it was parked in the second handicapped spot. Ardito said she asked the woman what happened, and the woman said she slipped on the ice and grabbed the mirror to keep from falling. She said she was afraid to tell the owner what happened.

Sgt. Joseph Salvadore arrived and asked the woman if she would come to headquarters to complete a statement. She was advised of her rights at headquarters and repeated her explanation of slipping on the ice. Ardito said surveillance video of the incident indicated that she deliberately and forcibly hit the mirror with her arm. Marilyn M. Hopp, 50, of 341 Simmonsville Ave., was charged with vandalism and released with a summons for District Court.

DAMAGED REAR

Patrolman Derrick Palazzo said he was at the Petroil gas station on Plainfield Street around 10:50 a.m. on Jan. 15 when he saw a car with a cracked windshield and a damaged rear end heading east. He said a check of the plate revealed there was no active registration, so he stopped the car near 1242 Plainfield St. A check on the operator revealed a suspended license.

Palazzo said the operator told him she got the plates from her boyfriend and “only put them on my car to go to work.” Katie L. Ouellette, 21, of 1534 Plainfield Pike in Cranston, was charged with driving an unregistered car on a suspended license. The plates were seized and the car was towed.

SPEEDING

Patrolman Arthur Petteruti reports he clocked a car doing 53 mph on George Waterman Road around 10 25 p.m. on Jan. 19. He also noticed the driver had no seat belt on. He pulled the car over near 234 Putnam Ave. and noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana. He said he asked the driver if he had marijuana in the car and the man is said to have admitted he had about an ounce in the backseat. The driver was arrested and the car was turned over to his friend, a licensed driver.

Jesse Daoheuang, 25, of 8 Carriage Way in North Providence, was charged with driving on a suspended license, no seat belt, speeding, possession of 33.6 grams of marijuana, driving in possession of controlled substances and violating conditions of his probation on other drug charges. He was held for Superior Court.

WARRANT

Patrolman Ryan Lemieux reports arresting Kulh Lizarda, 26, of 20 Pezzullo St. in Johnston, on Jan. 16 on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a payment for driving without a license in North Providence. He was later transported to District Court.
