EXPIRED LICENSE

Patrolman Michael Martufi reports he was at a fixed traffic post on Nov. 4 when his radar clocked a car traveling 55 mph on Hartford Avenue around 3:15 a.m. He said he pulled the car over and the driver handed him a passport and told him she didn’t have a license because it expired in September 2013. He said he ran her name through the DMV system and it did come back as expired on Sept. 10 of that year. He said the driver had no warrants, and his supervisor told him to give her a ticket for speeding and driving on an expired license and release her at the scene. Court records show that Brooke Garland, 29, of 102 Hollis Ave. in Warwick, had several priors for driving without an up-to-date license several years ago but no record of failure to appear.

ARREST WARRANT

Patrolman David Loffler reports he was on patrol on Cedar Street around 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 8 when he approached a car stopped between two vehicles parked on both sides of the street. He said as he approached the car, it moved off and then took an abrupt turn onto Green Street, at which time he put on his lights and siren. He said the car didn’t stop and he called in the incident and followed the car onto Dyerville Avenue and Elm Street, where it stopped in the middle of the road.

Loffler said he put the driver in handcuffs, and the man reportedly admitted he ran because he had just got out of the ACI and did not want to be stopped driving a car without a license.

Loffler said a BCI check indicated a number of aliases used by the suspect and a criminal record that included charges of domestic assault, burglary, housebreaking and assault dating back to 1988. He said they also located an outstanding arrest warrant under the alias Troy DiPina for domestic breaking and entering, domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct from North Providence.

Leonard D. DiPina, 45, of 124 Waterman Ave. in North Providence, was charged with eluding police and driving on an expired license. Loffler noted that DiPina had 22 priors on his BCI record.

SUPERIOR WARRANT

Patrolman Robert Cardoza reports he was sent to Becker Avenue around 10:10 a.m. on Nov. 10 to locate a man wanted for failure to appear in Superior Court for an embezzlement charge. He said he found the man and identified him by his ACI discharge card as John R. Smith, 28, of 7 Becker Ave.

He was taken to headquarters, were he was turned over to detectives for questioning.
