NO PLATE

On Oct. 22, Patrolman John DeAngelis reports following a pick-up truck that had no front license plate from the intersection of Hartford and Borden avenues. He said he followed the vehicle onto Dix Avenue and then onto White Drive. He said a DMV check revealed the truck was actively registered to the driver, but the driver’s license was currently suspended. The truck was left in a driveway and the driver, Matthew E. Maione, 37, of 1Pamela Drive in Smithfield, was taken to headquarters, booked and then released with a summons. Court records show Maione pleaded no contest to driving on a suspended license in March of this year.

DARK WINDOWS

On Oct. 23, Patrolman Remy Mendez reports seeing a 2012 Toyota Camry heading west on Plainfield Street with sunscreen on all four windows and pulling the vehicle over. The registration on the car was current, but the driver had a suspended license. Philip Smith, 35, of 334 Hawkins St. in Providence, was taken to headquarters, where he was booked and then released with a ticket for illegal sunscreen and driving on a suspended license. He was serving a suspended sentence for a drug charge in 2009 but was not charged as a violator.

EVASIVE

Patrolwoman Brooke Ardito reports spotting a 2001 Chevy Malibu traveling at a high rate of speed onto Sunset Avenue on Oct. 21. She said the driver made the turn without using a signal and passed other vehicles illegally by crossing left of center. She said the car stopped in a driveway of Summit Avenue. She said the driver admitted he was trying to avoid her because he had a suspended license. The driver, identified as Joseph V. Desantis, 52, of 8 Summit Ave. in Johnston, was charged with not wearing a seat belt, illegal passing and not using a turn signal. Court records show a plea of not contest on a larceny charge in March, but he was not held as a probation violator. He was later released on $5,000 personal recognizance.
