WALLET FOUND

On Oct. 6, Sgt. Megan Boulet reports a Providence public works driver told her he found a wallet in one of their parks and it belonged to a Johnston resident. She said she attempted to contact the person on the driver’s license at his Lillian Road residence with no success, and brought the wallet back to headquarters for safekeeping.

CAR FIRE

A Dyerville Avenue resident told police she had no idea why her car’s engine compartment burst into flames on Oct. 10.

Patrolman Adam Parkinson said the car was in the parking lot of the Municipal Court at 1600 Atwood Ave. around 4:10 p.m. when she was informed that it was on fire. Johnston fire said the blaze was confined to the engine compartment, and the owner said she did not have any work done on the car recently. Johnston fire said it did not appear to be suspicious.

MYSTERY HIT

A North Providence man told Patrolman Michael Protano he had no idea what hit the windshield of his car on Route 295 North on Oct. 11. He said there were no trucks in front or near him when something hit the passenger side and “spider-webbed” the glass.

Protano said the wiper on that side was also damaged, but it was difficult to tell what damaged it. The driver said no one was throwing things at him from other vehicles. Protano said he took pictures of the damage to be uploaded into the Incident Management Center (IMC).

DUI AND HIT & RUN

Patrolman Joseph McGinn reports he was talking with an accident witness near 1880 Hartford Ave. on Oct. 12 when the driver of the other car involved decided to make a run for it and drove off at a high rate of speed. He said he followed the car through the 4 p.m. traffic as it swerved from lane to lane and fortunately had no accident before he caught up with it near 1300 Hartford Ave.

McGuinn said the driver stumbled out of the car and had to hold on to balance herself. He said she smelled of alcohol and was obviously under the influence. He said he asked why she left the scene of the accident and she reportedly said, “What accident? I can’t find my purse.”

McGinn said she could not even start a field sobriety test, and he took the driver to headquarters, where he was unable to get an adequate breath sample the first few tries but did get a .144 a .150 two hours after the accident.

Sharon L. DiMaio, 67, of 988 Hartford Ave., was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and laned roadway violations. McGinn said she was released to Johnston rescue with a summons and taken to Fatima Hospital for evaluation and detox.

Joseph Salvadore reports stopping a car on Dyerville Avenue on Oct. 10 for having windows with illegally dark tinting, and ending up arresting the driver on an outstanding warrant from Providence for receiving stolen goods. Nelson L. Toledo, 30, of 20 Judith St. in Providence, was taken to headquarters where he was given a warning about the windows while was held for Providence police.

Patrolman Andrew Broccoli responded to a small accident on Killingly Street on Oct. 15 and ended up arresting one of the passengers on a warrant for failure to appear for a suspended license charge. Herbert D. Jordan, 58, of 111 Denver St. in Pawtucket, was arrested and held for arraignment.

Patrolman Matthew Leveillee said he went to 121 Central Ave. on Oct. 10 looking for Robert F. Levesque, 56, who had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a hearing involving a DUI charge. He found him, and took him to headquarters to be held pending arraignment.
