CRASHED

Patrolman Andrew Broccoli reports responding to an accident on the ramp at the junction of routes 295 and 6 at approximately 2:35 a.m. on Aug. 28.

Broccoli said the driver did not complain of any pain, even though it was apparent that the damage on the roof of the car indicated it rolled over. He said asking the driver what happened was unsuccessful because of the “strong language barrier.” He said Johnston Rescue was on the way and a tow was called for the disabled Nissan Maxima.

Broccoli said he found dents on two nearby light poles. He said it appeared that the driver was negotiating the curve to get onto Route 6 when he lost control and hit the light pole. Several trees within a 100-foot length of roadside were bent over and there was evidence that he was close to or onto the rock wall. He said there was no interpreter available, but what information he did have indicated the driver did not have an active license. He said the driver was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation and an interpreter at the hospital explained to Jose Raphael Ramos, 37, of 167 Cleveland St. in Providence, that he was being charged with driving without a license and laned roadway violations. He was given a summons for District Court and left in the care of the hospital staff.

ANOTHER CRASH

Patrolman Robert Cardoza reports responding to an accident near the Burger King restaurant at 1375 Hartford Ave. around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 25. He said a check on one of the drivers indicated that his license was suspended. Raymond Corbin Jr., 38, of 2 Reservoir Road in Lincoln, was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license and later released with a summons.

FUGITIVE

Sgt. Joseph Salvadore reports he stopped a car on Plainfield Street for having a cracked windshield. He said he ran a routine check on the driver that revealed the man had an outstanding warrant out of Norwich, Conn., for home invasion, robbery, kidnapping, larceny and three counts of larceny of a firearm.

Salvadore said he contacted Norwich and they said they did want to extradite the driver, identified as Vathna Keo, 20, of 22 Berlin St. in Providence. Keo was arrested without incident. He was arraigned before a justice of the peace and transported to the ACI pending extradition to Connecticut.
