ONE, TWO, THREE

On May 27, Patrolman Adam Parkinson reports he went to a Ruffstone Road residence to take a complaint about phone calls the resident was receiving from an ex-roommate against whom she had a no-contact order. Parkinson said there were records of six calls and some rambling messages on the answering machine identified as being from the suspect. The violation report was forwarded to detectives, and a warrant was issued.

On June 26, Patrolman John DeAngelis went to the home on Ruffstone Road for a violation of the no-contact order. He said a man there told him he arrived around 10:15 a.m. and saw the car of a woman who was supposed to have no contact with his ex-wife and was formally trespassed from the property. He told DeAngelis he was approaching the house when he saw the woman come out. He said he confronted the woman and told her he was calling the police, and she drove off.

DeAngelis said he spoke with the woman inside, who said she woke up that morning and found her former roommate sleeping on the couch. She said she left her door open that night because it was hot inside, and she assumed her ex-roommate came in the house while she was sleeping and she was not there with her permission.

DeAngelis said there was still a warrant out for the same woman for violating the no-contact order in May. He said a “be on the lookout” alert was sent to surrounding departments for Laurie A. Griffith, 49, of 197 Roger Williams Ave. in Providence, and the case was forwarded to detectives.

On July 29, Patrolman Remy Mendez reported he was dispatched to Sixth District Court to take Griffith into custody. She was in Sixth District for another matter and was then booked in Johnston and transported to Third District Court for the Johnston charges and then remanded to the ACI.

NO CONTACT

Patrolman David Galligan reports arresting a man on Pleasant View Avenue on July 27 for violating a no-contact order arising from a domestic dispute when Galligan saw him with a woman he was not supposed to see or contact. He said a search following the arrest uncovered 7.8 grams of marijuana in a plastic bag. Cicero Robinson, 33, of 38 Bancroft St. in Providence, was charged with possession in addition to violating the no-contact order.

RECKLESS

Patrolman Adam Parkinson reports he was on foot monitoring traffic near 2000 Hartford Ave. around 5 p.m. on Aug. 29 for speeding violations when he clocked a car at 51 mph heading east. He said he stepped out into traffic and attempted to flag the car down. He said the car pulled over and appeared as if it was going to stop, then sped past him without stopping.

Parkinson said he called in to dispatch about the car, explaining that he was on foot and the car was continuing toward the intersection of Hartford and Atwood and that a white male wearing a blue shirt was driving the gray Infiniti. He said he heard Patrolman Kevin Brady say he was in pursuit of the car and that it was still not yielding and had headed into the Ocean State Job Lot parking lot.

Brady’s report indicates the car sped into the lot, around the building and then into a parking space where it hit a parked vehicle. He said he drew his weapon and approached the car while giving the driver commands to get out. He said the driver ignored his commands and when another patrolman arrived, he grabbed the driver and pulled him out of the vehicle as he was waving his arms in a violent manner. He said they took the driver to the ground and placed him under arrest without further incident.

Parkinson came to the parking lot and identified the driver as the man who ignored his command to stop. He said he also remembered the same man from a similar incident in 2012 when he eluded Parkinson in a vehicle and then on foot.

Parkinson said a check revealed that there was a Superior Court warrant out for failure to appear for eluding police and a District Court warrant for failure to appear for a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. Parkinson said Robert Joseph Lahiff, 48, had an extensive BCI record, and Rhode Island Court records indicate over 60 other charges since 1987.
