SHOTS FIRED

Patrolman Kevin Brady responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 1100 Atwood Ave. around 3:25 p.m. on July 15. Dispatch said the call came from the Amazing Kids Academy, and the caller said she had gone to the academy to pick up her child when she heard two shots coming from across the street at 1050 Atwood. Brady said 1050 turned out to be a vacant property and they didn’t find anyone in that area, but they did notice a tree stand with a target set up in the backyard of 1048 Atwood. He said they went around to the rear of 1048 and found two men standing on the back deck. He said one of the men was holding a camouflage-colored black powder rifle.

Brady said officers told him to put the rifle down and come toward them, which he did. The man claimed he was cleaning his rifle and at no time fired it, but two holes in the target caused him to admit he fired two shots at the target. He said he didn’t believe that anyone was in danger because of it. The other man had not fired the rifle.

Brady pointed out that it was a residential area surrounded by houses and businesses, including the Amazing Kids Academy, which was only 200 feet for where the rifle was fired. Brady said the man was “advised of his Constitutional Rights” and then arrested without incident.

Scott A. Esposito, 46, of 1048 Atwood Ave., was charged with discharging a firearm in a compact area and later released on $5,000 personal recognizance.

ATTENTION, PLEASE

Patrolman Adam Parkinson reports he was dispatched to the parking lot of the CVS store at 26 Putnam Ave. around 1 p.m. on July 20. The caller told dispatch there was a man in a bright green hat and bright green sneakers taking some of his clothes off in the parking lot.

Parkinson said the found the subject in the breakdown lane of Putnam Avenue, and the man was seriously disoriented and frenetic and kept reaching around his waistband, which made the patrolman uneasy. He and another patrolman patted the man down for weapons, and found a couple of screwdrivers and some golf tees.

Parkinson reports a small bag had fallen out of the man’s pocket, which held a white powdery substance that appeared to be a prepared package of cocaine. The patrolman said the man denied that it belonged to him, and said, “That’s not mine … these aren’t even my pants I’m wearing.” Parkinson said the man also had a prescription bottle that contained an assortment of pills in different shapes and colors.

The patrolman said police also found the man’s van, which had two cases of bottled water sitting outside of it and an assortment of credit cards strewn on the pavement. The items turned out to belong to the man.

Parkinson said he spoke with the woman who called police, who told him the man came in and she thought he was acting delirious and possibly intoxicated. She told Parkinson he used the complimentary hand sanitizer to “bathe” himself and as shampoo and was getting the sanitizer all over the counter. He said she also helped him identify the prescription drugs they found on the man. Two of them, Klonopin and Adderall, were controlled substances for which he apparently had no prescription. The powder reportedly tested positive for cocaine and weighed over two grams.

Michael A. Anderson, 34, of 26 Carue Drive in North Scituate, was charged with possession of controlled substances and held as a bail violator on a felony assault charge and a probation violator for a simple assault charge.

FELONY SHOPLIFTING

Patrolman David Loffler responded to a shoplifting in progress at Walgreen’s on Atwood Avenue around 2:20 p.m. on July 18. He said he arrived to find the suspect detained by store personnel. The manager of the store said the suspect asked a clerk for an empty bag when he entered the store, and the request was denied, as is store policy. She also said it is store policy to keep an eye on people who make such requests, and the clerk watched as the man filled an empty bag of his own before heading for the exit without stopping to pay for anything. She said he was detained until police arrived. Loffler said $114.25 worth of merchandise was recovered.

Leo J. Levesque, 50, of 717 Central Ave. in Johnston, was charged with felony shoplifting when they learned he had two prior convictions for shoplifting, two convictions for receiving stolen goods and was a probation violator. He was later transported to the ACI.

Patrolman Matthew Winsor said he and a detective went to Lafayette Street around 4 p.m. on July 19 looking for a suspect and spoke with his ex-wife. He said she let them look through the residence and told them she had no idea where he was, but a check revealed she had a warrant out for failure to appear in District Court for a suspended license charge. Carla B. Desanto, 36, of 36 Lafayette St., was taken to headquarters and held for arraignment.

Patrolman Ryan Lemieux reported a broken glass door at the Inglesia Evangelica Emanuel at 770 Hartford Ave. on July 20. The pastor told Lemieux the door was intact when he passed the church around 8 a.m. that morning.
