WHO OWNS IT?

Patrolman Robert Cardoza reports responding to an accident in the parking lot of the plaza at 560 Killingly St. around 6:30 p.m. on July 7. The driver of a pickup truck with a trailer attached told Cardoza he was attempting to turn around in the parking lot and misjudged the distance between his trailer and the sign for the plaza and he hit the sign. He showed Cardoza damage along the side of the trailer and to the border of the sign, which was broken off from the sign by the impact. Cardoza said the owner of the trailer gave him a written statement about the accident, but Cardoza spoke with several employees at the plaza and none of them could provide him with the name or phone number for the plaza’s owner. Procedural checks were also unsuccessful.

DOWNED TREE

Patrolman Derrick Palazzo reports he was dispatched to a down utility pole around 10:20 a.m. on July 5 but arrived to find that it was actually a tree that had fallen across the street, blocking all traffic and trapping live electric wires beneath it. He said National Grid and the town’s Highway Department were called to the scene. The homeowner whose wires were knocked down told Palazzo he heard the tree falling around 9:40 a.m. Palazzo said he took pictures of the tree and the electrical box on the house that was damaged.

ASSAULT

Patrolman Robert Cardoza reports going to the Dunkin’ Donuts at 602 Killingly St. around 1 a.m. on June 28 to take an assault complaint from a Borden Avenue resident. The 21-year-old man told Cardoza he had a social gathering at his residence and over the course of the evening, one of the partygoers got drunk and left the party. That partygoer apparent was injured and taken to the hospital, and his father showed up at the residence and confronted the host about injuries his son got before going to the hospital. He said the older man punched him in the face several times, causing lacerations and swelling around his eyes, causing his lips to swell and breaking his right front tooth in half. He told Cardoza he was familiar with his assailant and identified him as David R. Viens Sr., 45, of 27 Lee St. in Johnston. He said the victim refused transport for medical treatment but said he did want to press charges. He said an attempt to locate Viens at that time failed and the case was forwarded to detectives, who secured an arrest warrant for Viens. Cardoza reported that Viens turned himself in around 650 p.m. on July 2 and was later released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
