ASSAULT

Detective Brian Loffredi reports following up on an assault that occurred at JJ’s Coliseum on March 16. He said he went to the bar and viewed video of an assault that took place just inside the entranceway and spilled into the parking lot. The video reportedly showed one of the regulars at the bar punching another man as he attempted to enter the establishment. Both parties then moved into the parking lot, the detective reports, where the aggressor knocked the other man down. Other people broke up the fight before any more blows were struck.

Patrolman Robert Cardoza, who interviewed the victim after the assault at the nearby Cumberland Farms on Killingly Street, said the blow that struck the victim’s face raised a large lump around his eye. The victim was transported for medical attention, and reportedly said he did want to press charges against the man who struck him but would not be able to identify him because it all happened so quickly.

People who viewed the video with Loffredi identified the assailant as Stephen M. Graziano, a regular at the bar. Loffredi said he contacted the owner of the pickup truck identified in connection with the assault, and she reportedly confirmed that Graziano was using her truck at that time.

Within five minutes, according to Loffredi, Graziano called and said, “You must be looking for me about the fight last night,” and told the detective he would talk with his lawyer before he talked to police.

Lofferdi said Graziano came into headquarters on March 18, as requested, and readily admitted he punched the victim while he was coming through the door at JJ’s. He reportedly said he did so because the man had harassed and followed Graziano’s girlfriend on the night of March 13, and that “he took the matter into his own hands” when he saw the man at JJ’s.

Graziano, 50, of 8 Rosemont Terrace, Apt. #1ST, was later arraigned on a charge of simple assault and battery.

SIDESWIPED

Patrolman Matthew Rado reports an accident at Killingly Street and Borden Avenue around 6:30 a.m. on March 25. The driver of a dump truck told him a car with a Texas registration attempted to go around him and sideswiped his truck. He told Rado the driver of the other vehicle must have thought the truck was taking a turn at the time, but it was not.

Rado said the driver of the car told him he thought the truck was making a turn, and when he tried to go around him, he sideswiped the car.

Rado said he learned that the driver of the car, identified as Carlos Sandoval, 31, of 71 Sheridan St. in Johnston, had no driver’s license, registration or proof of insurance. Sandoval was processed at headquarters and later transported to District Court.

WRONG CAR

Patrolwoman Brooke Ardito reports she was on patrol near Central Avenue and Apple Tree Lane around 10:50 a.m. on March 24 when she spotted an expired sticker on the plate of a silver Jeep Cherokee going east on Central. She said she pulled the car over and confirmed that the plates were expired, and then learned they should have been on a blue 1999 Pontiac.

Ardito said a check on the driver, James A. Perfetto, 50, of 2154 Hartford Ave. in Johnston, revealed he had a suspended license for failure to appear. Perfetto was taken to headquarters, where he was processed and charged with driving on a suspended license, improper use of plates and operating an unregistered vehicle. He was later released with a summons.
