Police are searching for a minimum-security inmate who walked away from a work detail on Monday.

Keurys Pena, 25, of Providence, with an alias of Michael Santana, was working at the Prison Industries Building on the Adult Correctional Institute (ACI) grounds in Cranston at approximately 12:50 p.m. when he walked from the scene, according to Rhode Island State Police.

He is described as standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing roughly 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and white T-shirt.

State police said Pena is serving a 4-1/2 year sentence for breaking and entering. His criminal record includes resisting arrest, breaking and entering, driving without consent of an owner and narcotics-related charges.

His last place of residence was 8 Sackett St. in Providence, police said, and he is “known to frequent the Providence Metro area.”

Anyone with information regarding Pena’s location is being asked to contact the state police Lincoln Woods Barracks at 401-444-1100.
