To say Johnston’s Dylan Pingitore enjoyed the best three-day stretch of his collegiate sports career would be an understatement.

Last Saturday, the one-time JHS standout pitched Rhode Island College to an impressive Little East Conference 4-1 victory over long-time rival Western Connecticut State University.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound senior southpaw went the distance in picking up the win. Pingitore held the Colonials’ potentially dangerous batting order to just six hits and struck out three.

For his Herculean effort, Pingitore was named Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week almost a year after his historic no-hitter back in 2015.

On the season, Pingitore has appeared in eight games and started all of them. He is 2-4 overall with a 3.29 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 52 innings.

The Anchormen are 13-20-2 and 2-10 in the Little East Conference.

While that all happened last Saturday, Monday night was perhaps even more special for the one-time Johnston High star.

Rhode Island College, which is known for its well-organized athletic program and how the school consistently recognizes its male and female student-athletes, held its annual Spring Sports Awards Banquet at the famed Quonset Point Officer’s Club in North Kingstown.

When RIC’s long-time Athletic Director Don Tencher announced the baseball Anchormen’s Most Valuable Player, the prestigious honor went to Pingitore.

“My entire family is thrilled for Dylan,” Joseph Pingitore, Dylan’s dad, who is president of the Rhode Island Vintage Truck Haulers Association, offered. “What a nice way to end an athlete’s collegiate career.”

As for Dylan Pingitore, he said: “I’m hoping to continue to play at this or a higher level during the summer months.”
