Pick-n-Pull hosting job fair at Johnston Senior Center

If you’re looking for a job, plan to be at the Johnston Senior Center next Wednesday, April 23 – you just might land one.

Pick-n-Pull, a California-based self-service auto and truck dismantler that has 53 locations across the country and eight in Canada, is coming to Johnston and will hold a job fair next Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to fill 30 positions.

“I urge all Johnston residents who are looking for work to attend the job fair,” Mayor Joseph Polisena said Tuesday. “Our people are going to be given preference in hiring for all positions, providing, of course, they meet the necessary requirements.”

The mayor also announced that Pick-n-Pull will be located in Johnston Industrial Park, located on Green Earth Avenue.

“This is great for our town,” Polisena said while going over the job fair information with Doug Jeffrey, his chief of staff. “Another new business coming to Johnston, more new jobs coming to Johnston. What’s even greater is that our residents will receive top priority in hiring.”

Polisena noted that Pick-n-Pull performs pre-employment drug testing, a physical and a background check.

Among the positions that the company, which recently opened its first Rhode Island location, will offer are equipment operator and auto/mechanic dismantler.

Pick-n-Pull is an industry-leading chain of self-service auto parts stores providing recycled original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts at incredible prices.

“For over 20 years we have been offering quality parts for all makes and models of foreign and domestic cars, vans and light trucks,” a company report noted. “Our selection of parts is tough to beat with new arrivals daily, and our stores are open seven days a week.”

Polisena, meanwhile, said the company offers “good benefits and good wages, and that’s my main concern for the citizens of Johnston. It’s also important that Pick-n-Pull is willing to give our residents first preference for all the jobs the company will offer.”

The mayor reiterated that Pick-n-Pull will offer a total of 30 full-time and part-time jobs, and that “it’s very, very important that our residents who are looking for employment attend the job fair next week.”

Pick-n-Pull is a subsidiary of Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc., a global leader in the metals recycling industry that has been in business for over a century. The company purchases used and salvage vehicles from tow companies, private parties, auto auctions, charities and insurance companies.

“Working at Pick-n-Pull is more than a job, it’s a career,” an informational package states. “A large part of our success depends on developing and retaining employees that excel in their respective areas. To attain this goal, we offer our employees many tools and opportunities for career development.”

The company also says those tools include an exciting work environment that recognizes commitment and hard work, as well as comprehensive benefit packages for eligible employees.

Pick-n-Pull also offers competitive wages, medical, dental and vision plans, life and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan with company match, paid time off, company-paid uniforms, tuition assistance and employee discounts.

People who’d like further information – and as Polisena said, “the first crack at a job at the newest company in town” – should attend next Wednesday’s job fair at the Johnston Senior Center, located at 1291 Hartford Ave.
