The Johnston baseball team improved its record to 3-2 on Saturday, as it came out on top, 10-7, in a slugfest at East Greenwich.

The Panthers raced out to a big lead, scoring nine runs in the first three innings of play. They were then able to elude a late comeback bid from the Avengers to grab the win in Division-I-B play.

Second baseman Aaron Perfetto led the charge at the plate for Johnston, notching two hits, one of which plated two runs in a five-run third inning.

Jake Podmaska started on the bump for the Panthers, earning the win.

Senior right-hander Korey Fijal came on in the sixth inning to shut the door on the Avengers to secure the victory.

The Panthers were at 2-5 Toll Gate on Wednesday, but results were unavailable at press time.

Johnston will play at 3-1 North Kingstown on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
