Nelson, Pennacchia impress at Cumberland Pentathlon

Kyle Nelson and Evan Pennacchia represented Johnston’s track team well last week at Cumberland’s Pentathlon, a thrower’s meet consisting of five events.

In a field of 45 participants, Nelson took fifth overall and Pennacchia claimed 19th.

Nelson’s day was highlighted by a first-place finish in the discus throw. He would also go on to take second in the javelin throw and third in the shot put.

The Panthers then competed in a dual meet on Monday, and they owned the field events once again.

Nelson won the discus and hammer events and fellow junior Chris Fryar took first in the shot put.

Pennacchia had another impressive day in his own right, earning a second-place finish in the discus behind Nelson.

Johnston will be back in action today, when it travels to Ponaganset for a dual meet with the Chieftains, North Providence and Woonsocket.
