'Little Red Riding Hood's Christmas' coming to senior center

For years, the Kaleidoscope Theatre has been one of Rhode Island’s best known musical and entertainment troupes.

The Cranston-based non-profit, which is headed by founder David Payton and co-founder Bob Zannini, will bring its many talented performers to the Johnston Senior Center this Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22, for what promises to be a unique and entertaining production entitled “Little Red Riding Hood’s Christmas.”

Back on Nov. 17, when the Johnston Senior Center held its annual meat raffle, two headliners of the show – Haley Pine and Jamie Dellorco – treated a large audience to a preview of what they’ll be singing Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. in Johnston.

“Absolutely beautiful!” exclaimed Tony Zompa, the JSC’s executive director, as he talked about the voice of Pine and Dellorco. “Personally, I’m excited about the [Kaleidoscope] Theatre coming here…it could be the beginning of something big for our people.”

According to Payton, Sunday’s show will be an intergenerational performance of Kaleidoscope’s adaptation of “Little Red Riding Hood’s Christmas.”

“There’s a Granny that’s a dilly, a Wolfy who’s quite silly and a loving mother who shares,” read a promotional poster inside the JSC. “There’s a fearless Huntsman who cares and a little girl all dressed in Christmas red who’s loved by one and all.”

Little Miss Riding Hood will be played by Pine, 11, of Barrington, who sings mezzo soprano. Her mother, Dellorco, sings soprano.

When asked about tickets, Zompa said, as a huge smile flashed across his face, “We’ve got a real bargain for this show; the tickets are only $5 per person.”

There’s also plenty of comfortable seating, and the performance will be held inside the Johnston Senior Center’s multi-purpose room at 1291 Hartford Ave. Parking is free.
