The Johnston Senior Center’s annual Independence Day Luncheon had members on their feet last Friday.
Backed by the sounds of “Retrospect” – a two-piece duo featuring Bobby Colardo and Don Rittmann – the senior center was filled with music, dancing and all-American cuisine. Each table was decorated with an American flag, red, white and blue carnations and a coveted plate of desserts. Senior Center staff, led by events and trips coordinator Marie Venditti, was decked out in red, white and blue to match the décor.
And what would be a Fourth of July Party without hot dogs and watermelon? The day’s menu included lemonade, hot dogs, baked beans, buttered corn, seedless watermelon and a fish patty on a roll with tartar sauce.
The event was enhanced by women like Jude-Ann DiOrio, JSC’s secretary, public relations director and computer guru, who did everything from dance to the sounds of Retrospect to sell raffle tickets for a food-filled gift basket that was donated by The Bridge at Cherry Hill.
“Everybody had fun,” DiOrio said. “It was a great way for our members to celebrate Independence Day.”
Colardo and Rittmann also enjoyed their time with JSC’s members.
“We like making people happy with our music,” said Colardo, who is also known as “Bobby C.” “We play songs that you like; just call them oldies but goodies.”
