THREE-CAR ACCIDENT

On Jan. 19 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Patrolman Remy Mendez along with Patrolman David Galligan and Sargent Megan Boulet responded to the area of 648 Killingly St. for a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident with no injuries.

Upon arrival, the officers observed that all three of the involved vehicles were resting in the northbound lane of Killingly Street. Officer Mendez spoke with the operator of vehicle No. 1, who stated that he was driving northbound when vehicle No. 2, which he stated was tailgating him, rear-ended his car. In his report, Officer Mendez noted that the operator of vehicle No. 1 advised him that he and the occupants of vehicle No. 2 were involved in a road rage incident prior to the accident. The officer was told that, following the road rage incident, vehicle No. 2 continued to follow and tailgate until it rear-ended vehicle No. 1.

The driver of vehicle No. 1 said that when he stopped on Killingly Street at a red light, the female operator of vehicle No. 2 pulled up to his car and spat in his passenger’s face, then continued to drive directly behind his car until the accident occurred. After the accident, the male passenger of vehicle No. 2 exited the vehicle with a wrench in his hand and began aggressively walking towards vehicle No. 1.

The driver of vehicle No. 3 then told officers that she was also traveling northbound on Killingly Street when she observed vehicle No. 2 come to an abrupt stop in front of her. She said that vehicle No. 2 then began to reverse and struck the front of her car. The driver also confirmed that a woman was driving car No. 2 and that the male passenger exited with a wrench in his hand in an attempt to start an altercation with the driver of car No. 1.

The occupants of car No. 2 were identified as Amber Legare, 21, of 26 Clarke Road, Apt. LKA in Smithfield, and John Mick, 37, of 12 Porter St. in Pawtucket. When asked about the incident, Mick informed the officers that he was driving the car and rear-ended the vehicle in front of him, then attempted to reverse and struck the car behind. Officers then asked again if he was the driver, and he replied that he was. He was then placed under arrest and charged with obstructing an officer in the execution of his official duties and disorderly conduct. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and held pending arraignment.

Officer Mendez then spoke with Legare, who admitted that she was the driver and that her license was suspended. A registry check on the car also revealed that the vehicle was not actively registered and improper plates were attached. As a result, Legare was issued a summons for operating an unregistered vehicle, improper use of registration and following too close. She was also given a Third District notice for driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license. The car was then towed and its license plates seized.

WARRANT

While on patrol in the area of 1025 Plainfield St. on January 16 at approximately 10:22 a.m., Patrolman David Galligan observed an older model beige-colored Buick traveling east. A check of the car’s license plates revealed that they belonged to a black 2007 Buick, and a traffic stop was initiated.

According to the officer’s report, a registry check using the car’s vehicle identification number revealed that it did not have an active registration. The operator, identified as Kyle J. Lewis, 27, of 1188 Plainfield St. in Johnston, stated that he had recently purchased the vehicle but could not provide the officer with the proper paperwork. Background checks on Lewis revealed that he had an active warrant issued by the Cranston Police Department for obtaining a vehicle with intent to defraud.

Officer Derek Parascandolo then arrived on scene to assist and Lewis was placed under arrest without incident. The car was towed from the scene and its license plates were seized. Lewis was taken to police headquarters, where he was processed and issued a summons for operation of an unregistered vehicle and improper use of registration. He was then turned over to the Cranston Police Department for the warrant.

NO INSPECTION STICKER

While monitoring traffic on a fixed post in the area of Hartford Avenue and Memorial Avenue on Jan. 16 around 4:45 p.m., Patrolman Arthur Petteruti observed a black Nissan Altima pass by with no inspection sticker affixed to the front windshield. A traffic stop was then initiated nearby the Route 295 northbound off-ramp on Hartford Avenue.

There he met with the driver, identified as Celena Vieire, 23, of 32 Vincent Ave. in Pawtucket. A check with the DMV revealed that Vieira’s driver’s license was suspended. She was issued a citation for no inspection sticker and a Third District Court notice to appear for driving on a suspended license. According to the report, Vieira was subsequently released at the scene and her car was driven away by an operator who possessed a valid license.
