Johnston High School’s new leadership team is complete.

The School Committee on Monday night hired Donna Pennaccchia, who brings extensive experience from her tenure in the Scituate school system, to fill the vacant assistant principal’s post.

Pennacchia joins the entirely new Johnston High administration, which will be headed by Principal Dennis O. Morrell and recently hired assistant principal Michael David Mancieri.

“Donna comes to us from Scituate High School, where she was the math department chairperson and a math teacher,” Johnston Schools Superintendent Dr. Bernard DiLullo said while making the official announcement. “She has extensive knowledge of the NEASC accreditation process and has held leadership positions.”

DiLullo continued: “I look forward to her joining our new leadership team at the high school, where I think we have a nice balance of backgrounds that will complement each other as they lead Johnston High School.”

Pennacchia earned a doctor of education degree from Johnson & Wales University with a major in educational leadership. She also holds a master of arts degree in teaching with a major in mathematics from Providence College.

The new assistant principal is also a graduate of Rhode Island College, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree, majoring in mathematics with a concentration in secondary education.

Pennacchia has taught at all levels through calculus, including a Rhode Island College calculus early enrollment course while serving as a mentor for math teachers. She was also a senior project coordinator at Scituate High.

She was named Scituate’s Teacher of the Year in 2013, and is also a member of the prestigious Pi Mu Epsilon National Honorary Mathematics Society and Kappa Delta Pi International Society of Education.

DiLullo said Pennacchia will begin her new duties immediately.
