Johnston High soccer, football squads eye successful seasons

Posted

As this summer comes to a close, Johnston High School has a new look on boys’ fall sports this season. Our boys’ soccer and football teams are looking to be great contenders this season and achieve high rankings in their divisions.

After last year’s outstanding 7-1 season, Johnston’s football team is looking for another comeback in the playoffs. Last year Johnston lost to Rogers High School in the playoffs, upsetting many players. But this year, players have a new look, and as Captain Mark Conte said, “We expect to do really well this year. With a lot of hard work and effort we can shape up to be great a team.” Captain Devin Soares also added, “Everybody knows each other’s capabilities; we have been playing together since eighth grade.” With all of their hard work and positivity, the Johnston Panther football team hopes to strive for greatness and achieve success this season.

The boys’ soccer team has a challenging season ahead of them this year due to the fact that 11 team members graduated this past June. After last year’s success of a season, the boys are looking to rebuild their team and remain victorious. The team lost last year in an extremely upsetting 3-1 playoff game against Cranston East.

“With the loss of so many great players from last year we have a lot to prove as a young team. But, once we play as a united team, we will be tough to beat,” said Captain Kyle Lavoie.

Captain Brian Campanelli added, “This year is a rebuilding year with a lot of young guys but if we all work hard and have dedication toward our sport, we could be a real contender in our division.”

Both boys’ teams are surely striving toward a successful season and could use all of the support, so come out and cheer the Johnson High School boys’ soccer and football teams on! The first home football game is next Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. against West Warwick High School at our new field!
