Johnston High holds honor society ceremony, junior prom

As the school year comes to a close, Johnston High School juniors and seniors remain busier than ever, and last week was no different.

On May 13, the best and the brightest of the graduating senior class, the incoming senior class (juniors), and the incoming junior class (sophomores), were recognized at the National Honor Society ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. National Honor Society is a national organization, and Johnston High is proud to have our own little chapter that our students are apart of.

There are four characteristics that a student must have in order to be inducted: leadership, scholarship, service and character. A major idea that the society promotes is that it’s important for one to not only be academically sound, but completely well rounded as an individual. The school’s chapter of the National Honor Society is advised by Miss Jean Picano, who is also head of the math department at the school, and an incredible role model for many of the students.

Also, during the ceremony, three juniors were inducted into their new leadership positions within the National Honor Society for their upcoming senior year. The new president is Ibrahim Abaraheh, the new vice president is Erica Perkins, and the secretary is Rachel Graziano. Best of luck to these three students.

Also last week, on May 15, was the junior prom held at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick. The juniors had a successful prom with their Mardi Gras theme, with the dance ending at 11 p.m. Ten lucky juniors (in total) made the court for the night. The five boys were Nicholas Raposo, Jacob Podmaska, Ray Saleh, Domenic Loffredo and Jared Parillo. The five girls were Taylor Campagnone, Jaelyn Santopadre, Erica Perkins, Natalie DeAngelis and Rachel Graziano. Congratulations!
