Johnston 11’s finish as runners-up in District 1 tournament

Posted

The Johnston Little League 11-year-old all-star team had a strong run through the District 1 tournament two weeks ago, coming up just short of a title to perennial power Cranston Western.

After Johnston lost its first game of the tournament to Western, Johnston played an excellent game against North Providence West. After taking a 10-2 lead, then falling behind late in the game, the team rallied back for a 14-12 victory in front of its hometown fans. Domenic Petrarca led the offense with two hits. Pitchers Noah Campbell and Ryan Allen combined to seal the victory.

That victory brought Johnston to a rematch with Western, where it hung tough but fell 5-3. The defense was solid as every position recorded a put-out, including a diving catch by center fielder Joey Lavallee. Joey Morris was on the hill for Johnston in his first appearance in the tournament. He pitched five innings and at the plate Justin Salvatore led the way with two hits. The offense threatened late in the game but ending up falling just a little short.

Team members are: Ryan Allen, Noah Campbell, Logan Cooke, Colin Durante, Raffaele Florio, Joey Lavallee, Joey Morris, Dominic Petrarca, Hunter Remington, Justin Salvatore and Joe Silvia. The team was managed by Dave Lavallee with coaches Dan Salvatore and Jamie Silvia. (Submitted photo)
