JHS football starts with a bang
Steve Simone makes a pass under pressure

A week after a shaky performance in the Injury Fund, the Johnston High football team was back in business on Friday. Hosting Smithfield in the non-league season opener, the Panthers rolled to a 26-7 victory over Smithfield.

Phil Ndifon had a pair of touchdowns for the Panthers, while Rudy Lacroix and Marc Breton also found the end zone. The Johnston defense allowed just a fourth-quarter touchdown.

The Panthers will open league play this week with a Saturday night home game against Coventry. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Coventry went 3-4 last year and opened this season with a 34-19 loss to Division I foe South Kingstown.
