J-DAPA makes final call for ‘The Addams Family’ auditions

That’s what Donna Tellier, the founder of Johnston Dance and Performing Arts, or J-DAPA, announced regarding tonight’s final auditions for the upcoming spring musical, “The Addams Family.”

So if you have singing, dancing and acting talents and would like to make an appearance in what promises to be a highly-entertaining production, plan to be at Johnston High School’s spacious auditorium for tonight’s auditions, which will run from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Tellier recently announced only those who attend the tryouts will be eligible to participate in the non-profit community theater group’s production, which is scheduled to be held on the back-to-back weekends of April 10-11 and April 17-18 in the high school auditorium.

Once the auditions are complete and the cast has been selected, rehearsals will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, also inside the auditorium.

The spring production follows J-DAPA’s mission statement to promote love and appreciation for the arts through involving performers of all ages throughout the Rhode Island community.

“We strive to raise funds in an effort to renovate the Johnston Senior High School auditorium,” Tellier said. “Our goal is to better the lives of individual members of J-DAPA as well as audience members through fostering an appreciation and education of the arts.”

The roles for the play include Gomez Addams, Morticia Addams, Uncle Fester, Wednesday Addams, Grandma, Pugsley Addams, Lurch, Mal Beineke and Alice Beineke. Also being cast are members of The Ancestors, a male and female ensemble of singers and dancers.

Potential cast members must arrive at 7:30 p.m. and stay until the closing time of 9:30 p.m.

All those auditioning must also have a song prepared on a CD, not a phone or MP3 player.

Tellier also noted that audition song or songs may be from “The Addams Family” or a musical in the same style and range as the character for which the person is auditioning.
