The Imagine Walk & Family Fun Day for Autism, presented by The Autism Project, is set to take place Sunday, April 28, at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick.
Known for events and activities tailored to individuals on the autism spectrum, this 11th annual walk has become a favorite for families across Rhode Island who are supporting a child with autism or those who want to support the efforts of The Autism Project.
“Over the years we have perfected our walk and offering of activities, games and attractions that are fun for and sensitive to the needs of individuals with ASD and their families,” said Joanne Quinn, executive director of The Autism Project. “The atmosphere of shared experience and understanding allows all concerned a supportive environment to have fun and connect with other families.”
This popular 2K walk-a-thon is one of the largest events of its kind in Southern New England. Proceeds in 2011 were nearly $175,000, put toward supporting local programs designed exclusively for children and young adults with autism.
The day features a variety of free activities, including bounce houses, pony rides, a reptile show, arts, crafts and face painting. The UPS Store of RI and Southeastern Massachusetts sponsor the event.
The Autism Project is non-profit organization dedicated to the education of children with autism in public schools offering educational consultation services, professional and family training workshops, social groups for children and teens, summer camp, professional conferences and support groups for parents and caregivers.
